 Are Dams Needed in Patagonia?: An Analysis of Chile's Energy Future is the title of a study prepared by academics from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Chile, Roberto Román, Felipe Cuevas, and Pablo Sánchez, in conjunction with Canadian researcher Stephen Hall. The work is supported by the Patagonia Defense Council (CDP) and the Natural Resources Defense Council. According to the academics' research, it is estimated that if the five hydroelectric plants that the Hidroaysén group intends to build in Patagonia are constructed, the country could face an energy oversupply between 2014 and 2025.
